Microdonations are becoming a hot trend.
A few weeks ago, I posted about ways in which people were using Twitter to leverage their social network to help others. This week, Laura Fitton (aka @pistachio) has taken that one step further.
Laura is supporting Charity:Water this holiday season, with a goal of raising $25,000 from her extended social network. Charity:Water aims to bring clean drinking water to communities in developing nations. It's a wonderful cause and Charity:Water puts 100% of funds raised to work in the field.
For this effort, Laura is leveraging @tipjoy, a Twitter-based micropayment system to collect small donations of $2 each. Tipjoy not only waived the per-payment fees but, along with Betaworks are putting up matching dollars up to $10k raised for this effort.
In just a few days, Laura has raised more than $900 from 140 contributors. You can see the latest tally here. So, please take a minute to give some of your spare change to help fund this great project.
How to contribute:
It only takes a minute. Just follow these 3 quick steps:
- Sign up for tipjoy at: http://tipjoy.com/createaccount/platform/twitter/. You have the option to sign up using only your twitter credentials.
- Copy and paste this Tweet: p$2 @wellwishes to build wells and save children’s lives (via @tipjoy)
- Be sure you have funded your Tipjoy account. Start with as little as $5 and tip it to whomever you wish.
